Hi  Heather,

Just a quick note to tell you that Kimo's Yurt is one of the best kept
secret on the northern end of Kauai.  I stayed there once about 5 years ago
and I am headed back there in a couple of weeks for an extended stay.  Short
walk to the beach, short drive to a some nice restaurants, etc.  Great
hiking and snorkeling.  The Yurt is great-all of the amenities of an
apartment or condo, but you can hear the ocean better at night.  Lots of
privacy and very relaxing.

My husband and I had never been to the islands before and he had a conference in Maui the week b-4 we went to Kauai.  We stayed in the luxurious Spa Westin in Maui and I basically spent most of my time at the hotel/pools/shops, etc.  Didn't get out much, cuz he was in conference.  Now, mind you, a luxurious resort is not our usual preference...we prefer kinda funky, rural, getting into the culture when we travel.  That is what we got to experience in Kauai at Kimos Yurt.  When we first arrived, I must tell you that my husband was upset...feeling the online pics did not accurately represent the actual space.  The yurt sits tucked on a side yard between two big homes.  He thot it would be on an expansive piece of propery with a view.  No. (see pics - that's our red jeep we rented parked in the main house driveway))  However, it is sweet, quaint, private in it's own rite...and in a very rural area 6 miles or so outside of Hanalei...and 2 miles from the end of the road on the north shore.  A gorgeous and perfect place to be sunk into the "life" there....not touristy.  But the fact that it's tucked between two homes (see pics!) and no view of the ocean bummed my husband out since it was our first time to the islands and he really was not able to enjoy Maui due to the conference.  And it's a yurt...not the Westin!  But I saw it's sweetness and LOVED it immediately...quaint, comfortable, all you really need tucked into this funky little space (a huge round luxury tent, basically - see pics of outside and in).  I found the decor to be sweet, island prints, beautiful wood floors, very clean and neat....and the outdoor shower is WONDERFUL!  (see pics) My husband soon acclamated and said "yes, I would choose this again".  We both really loved the shower and the closeness to the nice quiet, almost private feeling beach (pics attached).  You walk out the driveway onto the dirt road, turn right, take a few steps and turn left down a little side street that leads you to a little path to the beach...no more than 3 minutes (see pics!).  And it is a beautiful, quiet beach.  You can walk to tunnels beach from this beach.  It's also a good snorkeling beach.  We also found the town of Hanalei to be our very favorite on the island and there it was!  So close to the yurt.  A gorgeous 6 mile drive to town.  The shops and restaurants there are delightful, upscale...great food.  We would definitely do this again.
So, if you go, go expecting culture, sweetness, quaintness, wonderful hosts, a great beach, a good nite's sleep and a fabulous shower!  The price can hardly be beat and there is everything there you need for your comfort.  Enjoy your vacation...and if you stay there we'd love to know how it went!  And if you found another place that you loved, we'd love to have you share that with us, as well!
Blessings,
Julie & Tom
